You can't expect much by way of culinary expertise in small towns on this route so finding a clean place with tasty food makes it a prime eating choice for people on the road. We had burritos off the lunch special (at a bargain price of $6 each!) and they were great. Chips and salsa tasted fresh. Tables, floors, and bathrooms were sparkling clean.

Incredible slow service at 1:00. Almost walked out. Food is decent & close to Interstate Hwy. chicken enchiladas were well prepared- go w verde sauce.
    Service improved.

We stopped here for dinner on our drive from KC to Denver.   The staff were very friendly and attentive, but the food was very disappointing.  The chips had a heavy, greasy taste.  The lettuce looked old.  The tortillas were stale.  Chicken fajitas were greasy.   Enchiladas were OK, but the cheese tasted funny.   Maybe they were having a bad day when we ate there, but I cannot recommend the food based on our experience.   The restaurant is clearly family owned and operated, and they were very warm and welcoming.  But they need to up their game on the quality of the food!

First impressions can be wildly wrong. El Dos is on a rocky lot, behind a gas station and next to a payday loan store. The interior is worn, faded, a bit tired. It's not quite dive yet but a lot closer to that than Grand Opening.
But the service and food!  This family-operated diner delivered on all points.
The mammoth menu with dozens of entrees was short on only one item I could see--fish, with only one selection. (I asked because the menu was too much to read).
My steak fajita was perfectly cooked with tender pieces of beef, bell peppers, and onions.
By evening Spanish rice cooked earlier is sometimes dry and crispy. Not here. It was moist and tasty. And, a bit surprising. With carrot bits and peas it could be called Spanish stir fried rice.
Retried beans also weren't overcooked and were some of the best I've had in a while.
The flag salad was fresh chopped lettuce and fresh pico de gallo.
It was enough dinner for two and at under $ 12 a terrific value.
Don't let the look or location stop you from trying El Dos.

Everything we read on reviews led us here. We were not disappointed.  Greeted with a smile. Seated immediately. Decor was colorful and festive (don't let the outside deter you). Seriously great service: fast and pleasant. Food came in less than 5 minutes. Chicken fajitas were sizzling and as fresh as it gets. Burrito San Juan for my husband was "yummy" .  Definitely a winner if you don't need to hang out and just want good food fast!  We may come here on our way back home and try something else. Have a great trip!
